Being Last
Monday, February 26th, 2007The trip to Colorado created a first for the trio of men. Never have we all been last in one day, so often, and not give a rip. It all began with pulling into the Keystone parking lot and taking the last spot available. Not only did we get the last spot, but a direct shot to the entrance. Saved a long walk on some tender feet since apparently the FJ doesn’t dump the crews stuff off at the front entry. The next last was when we beat the lift-keeper for the last run on the back bowl. Great skiing and it was nice being last again. Glad my downhill skills afforded us the tardiness and I’m sure the resident boarder (KD) had a spot in this process as well. Finally, we closed down the pizza joint in Idaho Springs, the last ones to eat. Great “Colorado style” pizza but somewhat created the perfect storm in my guts. I’m sure the half dozen wheat beers would accept some of the blame and probably that gyro at lunch. The FJ had never experienced such a storm, but weathered it exceptionally well. The prolonged stints of the windows down doing 50 along the peak to peak highway helped. Damn it was cold. Poor KD in the back seat for the whole trip. What a trooper. Sucks being 5-11 3/4.
So what is the meaning behind this? Its not about getting there in a hurry and being the first one at anything. Its about the adventure. There really is some solace for being last. What a great trip. Hope its not the last.
